Retired banker Cecil Browne will continue to serve as the Chairman for the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel confirmed in a media statement today.

Mr Immanuel also confirmed that former FCCC chief executive officer, Joel Abraham has stepped down from his position, stating that he has other important priorities to focus on.

He said Mr Abraham will continue to contribute his expertise when called upon, particularly in tariff reviews and regulatory matters.

“His extensive experience and analytical skills will allow him to offer valuable, independent perspectives to support FCCC’s work. If he continues at FCCC his ability will be limited.

"He remains committed to serving Fiji in whatever capacity he is called into guided by integrity, professionalism and respect for our people.”

The FCCC has also briefed Mr Immanuel that, in addition to Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), several other service providers have requested tariff reviews.

Mr Immanuel has requested that FCCC undertake further stakeholder consultations and public awareness activities.

He emphasized that any tariff review must carefully balance three critical dimensions:

• the role of the regulator,

• the discipline and transparency of the regulatory process, and

• the lived experience of consumers.

“All three matter equally in ensuring fair, transparent, and inclusive outcomes for the people of Fiji,” Mr Immanuel said.
