Municipal and General Elections set to make 2026 a big voting year
FEO confirms municipal polls in September ahead of the general election, marking multiple nationwide votes next year.

Fijians will face more than one election next year, with municipal polls scheduled for September ahead of the general election.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa confirmed today that 2026 would be “a very exciting year for Fiji” with multiple electoral events planned.
“Because we are looking at more than one election,” Ms Mataiciwa said during a press conference following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Online Safety Commission.

The municipal elections are set for September 2026, allowing residents in cities and towns to vote for their local council representatives.
Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa told the Fiji Sun on Monday that Cabinet had approved the local government elections for September.
However, the final timing will depend on the writ of election issued by the Supervisor of Elections.
The inclusion of iTaukei villages into municipal boundaries will allow residents of villages located within municipalities and in a two-kilometer radius from boundary ends to participate in the elections.
Cabinet endorsed the publication of by-laws and orders in November to enable the conduct of municipal elections.
Ms Mataiciwa’s announcement comes as the Fijian Elections Office prepares for an intensive electoral calendar, with both municipal and general elections requiring significant coordination and public awareness efforts.
The timing will require voters to stay informed about registration requirements and voting procedures for both types of elections.
