A helicopter pilot escaped serious injury after a Robinson R44 helicopter crashed into the sea off Wailoaloa Beach near the Nadi Boat Club yesterday afternoon.

The helicopter entered the water at about 5.23pm while flying from Nadi to Denarau, according to Fiji Airports.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was rescued from the water and received immediate medical attention from a doctor at the scene.

Emergency response agencies were activated and attended the site shortly after the incident.

Fiji Airports said it was working with the aircraft operator and relevant authorities to determine what caused the helicopter to enter the sea.

The incident did not affect operations at Nadi International Airport.

In a statement, Fiji Airports said safety remained its highest priority and it would continue to assist relevant agencies during the investigation.
