PM Rabuka Ready for 2026 General Election

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabu­ka is ready to contest the 2026 General Election.

This follows confirmation that eight new reserved political parties have expressed interest in register­ing for the election in 2026.

Supervisor of Election Ana Matai­ciwa revealed last week that the eight expressed interest in getting on with the groundwork to formally apply to register as a party.

"It's an indication of freedom of choice that people have registered their parties," Mr Rabuka said.

"I wish them well; we are ready, and we have always been ready."

Mr Rabuka acknowledged that with the new political freedom, much political competition is now birthed.

Meanwhile, Ms Mataiciwa said once they received confirmation of applications, then the election's of­fice would be able to inform Fijians of additional registered political parties.

She said it would include the move to get registrations, in terms of the requirements of the proposed party.

According to the Fijian Elections Office, the proposed political party must have at least 5000 members; 2000 from the Central Division, 1750 members from the, 1000 mem­bers from the North and 250 from the Eastern Division.
