PM urges civil servants to serve from the heart

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged civil servants to serve Fijians from the heart and remember that their work is ultimately about serving the people.

Mr Rabuka made the call yesterday during a special church service for civil servants at the Centenary Church in Suva.

“What you do every day, do it from your heart – that’s God’s calling on you,” he said.

“We are serving for the people.”

Mr Rabuka, who is also Minister for the Civil Service, said the work of civil servants went beyond carrying out their daily duties.

Civil servants from different ministries gathered for the service in a show of unity, faith and commitment to public service.

They various ministry choirs also performed their special numbers to the Prime Minister as they prepared for the Methodist Church of Fiji’s Annual Conference next week.

He said he felt it was appropriate to attend after being invited to the first public presentation of the civil servants’ choir.

Minister for Immigration Viliame Naupoto reminded civil servants that their positions came with a responsibility to serve people with respect, patience and integrity.

Reverend Mosese Salusalu also reminded civil servants that they had a special role in building the nation.

He urged them to remain humble, faithful and committed to helping others.

“Na vinaka kei Viti ena vakatau taki ena tamata vakabauta,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Rabuka was also scheduled to attend the funeral of the late Tui Vuda, Ratu Eparama Kitione Tavaiqia, yesterday.

He attended the church service before proceeding to his other official commitments.
