Sugar Cane Growers Council chief executive officer, Vimal Dutt, says the council would be submitting a proposal to the Sugar Industry Tribunal to review the cane payment schedules in the Master Award.
Mr Dutt said the proposal would feature the reduction of the cane payment cycle from five to four dedicated pays.
“This does not mean that the growers would be paid less, however the entire cane proceeds shall be paid to the growers in four payments,” said Mr Dutt.

“The final cane payment usually paid in the month of October shall be repealed with four dedicated cane payments and the final cane pay would be brought forward and merged with the fourth payment.”
He said this followed the Western Division-based growers’ recent discussion during consultations with the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Charan Singh on the review of the cane payment structure.
