Rabuka honours former PM Qarase during Lau visit

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka paid tribute to the late former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase yesterday, laying a wreath at his gravesite during a visit to Vanuabalavu before attending a historic ancestral land handover on nearby Avea Island.
Mr Rabuka stopped at Qarase's burial site in Mavana, where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence in honour of the former Prime Minister's service and contribution to Fiji.
He later visited the Qarase family home, Naivaka, where he was received by the late statesman's widow, Mrs Leba Qarase.

The visit came before Mr Rabuka travelled to Avea Island to hand over the original freehold title for 1,110 hectares of ancestral land to Yavusa Munia under the Government's Freehold Land Buyback Scheme, an initiative introduced during Mr Qarase's leadership.
During his visit to Vanuabalavu, Mr Rabuka also met students and teachers at Mualevu District School, where he encouraged students to work hard in their studies and strive for success in life.
