Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa confirmed that the deaths of a man and a woman in a house in Nadi Town last week were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

SSP Vaisewa said the post-mortem reports confirmed this.

“This could possibly be from the generator with its engine running inside the house with the windows and doors closed, but the cause of death for the two deceased persons has been confirmed as carbon monoxide poisoning. We are still investigating,” he said.

The deceaseds had been identified as 35-year-old businessman Ravinesh Kumar and his 60-year-old employee, Sneh Lata.

Mr Kumar was found motionless in one of the rooms within the house, while Ms Lata was found elsewhere inside.

Witnesses who discovered the bodies noted no visible injuries.

Initial information provided by a neighbour revealed that the house lacked electricity.

The real estate agent who secured the new tenants had requested the neighbour to share her electricity connection to which she agreed.

The neighbour reported that on May 29, an electrical fault disconnected electricity supply to the home.

She recalled hearing Mr Kumar using a generator that night. The next morning, as she left for work, she heard the generator running.

She also saw Mr. Kumar’s staff knocking on his door with no response. Police, after arriving at the scene, confirmed the deaths.
