Government seeks $200m Fiji Airways guarantee
Parliament to consider three-year Government backing for national airline’s additional borrowings.

Government will seek Parliament’s approval today to guarantee an additional $200 million in borrowings by Fiji Airways.
The proposed three-year guarantee is among the key motions listed for debate when Parliament sits from 9.30am today.
According to Parliament’s amended Order Paper, the Minister for Finance will seek approval for Government to guarantee Fiji Airways’ additional borrowings from August 1, 2026, to June 30, 2029.

The motion also seeks to exempt Fiji Airways from paying a guarantee fee.
Government is further seeking approval for the guarantee to cover the specified borrowing facilities until they reach full maturity or are discharged.
The motion is being brought under section 145(1) of the Constitution and Standing Order 131.
Treaties up for review
Parliament will also consider referring two international agreements to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence for review.
The Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General is scheduled to move the motion under Standing Order 130.
The agreements are the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Union and the Ocean of Peace Alliance, referred to in the Order Paper as the “Veitacini Treaty”.
