Ratu Sukuna Memorial School’s Loata Lewageena threw 39.12 metres to win gold in the senior girls’ javelin at the Fiji Finals at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports after her winning throw, Lewageena said she was pleased with her performance despite not setting a new record.

“Firstly, I thank the man above for giving me the strength and power,” she said.

“I was confident of winning the event despite strong competition.

“I dedicate this win to my family, my school and my coach.”

Lewageena said their support played a key role in her victory.

She added that her focus has now shifted to improving her performance at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, Australia, later this month.

“My main focus now is my preparation for the Oceania Championships,” she said.

The senior girls’ javelin record of 43.49 metres is held by Jasper Williams High School’s Elena Caucau.
