Without any proper sponsorship, Nabua Secondary School athletes are determined to deliver a good performance in today’s Suva Zone 2 competition which gets underway at the ANZ Stadium.
Head of Department Physical Education Music Art and Craft Salome Qerewaqa told SUNsports yesterday they have some potential athletes in the squad who they’re banking on to win medals.
“We’ve a total of 50 students participating this year that is a slight increase compared to last year,” Qerewaqa said.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t have our interhouse but we are trying our best to achieve our set goals for the Suva Zone 2 and the Coke Games.
“And this year we have some potential athletes in the squad and we look forward to some good performances as well. Looking at our overall performance last year we managed win five gold medals for the school and are confident to achieve more than that.”
Qerewaqa said they are grateful to the support that they have been getting from the Parents Teachers Association and the school management towards the build-up preparations for the athletes.
“Despite no proper sponsorship the participating athletes’ parents were able to fundraise to cater funds to purchase their own sporting uniforms which are very encouraging to see,” she added.
