“I’m trying hard but we’ve got some new boys who are playing in Hong Kong for the first time and they are enjoying it,” he said.

It’s best to forget this game and focus on the next, were the words of the Fiji men’s rugby sevens captain Vatemo Ravouvou after they qualified to tonight’s Hong Kong Sevens Cup quarterfinals .

The Fijians defied all odds to beat France 14-7 in their final pool match this afternoon.

Fiji led 7-0 at halftime from a Ponipate Loganimasi try after Ravouvou had set him up. The try was converted by Filipe Sauturaga.

The French fought back to level the scores 7-7 but the strong Fiji defence kept them backpedaling. In the dying stages of the match a backline move saw Napolioni Bolaca changed his running angle to score the winning try under the post, which was converted for the win.

Ravouvou said he was trying hard to adapt to the pace of the game (in the Series) after missing out for some time.

“I’m trying hard but we’ve got some new boys who are playing in Hong Kong for the first time and they are enjoying it,” he said.

Ravouvou also called on fans to remember the team in their prayers.
