Suva Grammar School student Farhaan Tyronne Ali (pictured) wants to improve his performance at the Oceania Athletics Championship in Darwin, Australia, next week.

The competition is from May 18-23.

“I’ll be expecting a lot of competition from my other competitors who I’ve competed with a few times before,” he said.

“My journey to the trials was tough as I’ve been training non-stop since the Pacific Mini games in Palau last year.”

Ali will be competing in the discus and shotput events for the Under-20 category.

“I came first in the Commonwealth trials, but I didn’t meet the qualifying standards, so my main aim is to give my all in the Oceania Championship,” he said.

“I just have to work hard as there will be more chances to qualify for the commonwealth games in the future.”

It will be the third time for the 19-year-old to represent Fiji in regional competitions.

“I just want to improve more on my Fiji finals performance and hit a new distance in the Oceania Championship,” Ali said.

“Preparation has been tiring but at the end of the day, you’re aiming to get the best results.”

Ali’s passion for athletics is what inspired him to work hard, and he has gained many achievements in his young career.
