Yasawa rugby head coach Taione Ratu is looking at finishing the Skipper Cup season on a high note.

In an interview with SUNsports yesterday, Ratu said they are targeting a bonus point win against Namosi with the hope of remaining in next year’s Skipper Cup competition.

“This is our last game so we’re looking for a bonus point win but it all comes down to the game this weekend,” he said.

“Preparation has been going well and we’re just ironing out the mistakes we made against Macuata last week.”

Ratu said it would be the first time a Skipper Cup match is played in the islands of Yasawa.

“We want to give the people of Yasawa some quality rugby that they’ve been missing out on for the past years in our previous Vanua Championship and Skipper Cup campaign,” he said.

“The bonus will be on the Yasawa team because we’ll be playing in front of our supporters, but the bigger bonus is to get the win out of it as well.”

Ratu said his side would need to iron out their set piece in attack.

“We need to get back to the basics of rugby, which we missed out on last week.

“We didn’t execute the technical aspect of the game well and we’ve been working on that in our preparation.”

Ratu said he has advise the players to enjoy their last match of the season against Namosi.

“We just want the fans to come out in numbers and support the team,” he said.

“We want the fans to build a relationship with the team because most of the time they hear about the matches on the radio, so I urge them to support both the men’s and women’s teams.”
