Palm Sunday for a family in Lautoka took a horrifying turn after the severed head of a newborn baby was discovered near their home at Field 4, Lovu, Lautoka.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident and said police have launched a full investigation.

According to resident Maria Sadranu, the disturbing discovery was made by a couple walking past their home on their way to the temple. She said the couple alerted her family after spotting what appeared to be a baby’s head near the house’s water tank. “It is the head of a newborn baby. It seems the neck was cut with a knife — there is a sharp cut on the neck,” Ms Sadranu said.

“When we returned from church in the morning, there was nothing there. I suspect a dog may have brought it from somewhere and left it near our house. “It is not only shocking but a deeply saddening experience to witness something so cruel, especially on Palm Sunday,” Ms Sadranu said. “Palm Sunday is known as Children’s Sunday. To witness such a tragic thing on this day — it’s truly heartbreaking.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
