Police have arrested two men following an attempted robbery in Tacirua this morning, after swift action by the Southern Division Taskforce and assistance from members of the public.

The suspects were restrained and taken into custody after they allegedly threw stones at officers during the arrest.

Police confirmed that the vehicle seen in a widely circulated social media video has been seized.

The video showed a man, his face covered and armed with a cane knife and a pinch bar, attempting to rob a house.

A family member was seen throwing rocks at the suspect’s getaway vehicle, which had its number plate clearly visible. This detail helped investigators trace the vehicle to its registered owner.

Police said the vehicle was a replacement rental car hired by a 33-year-old man living in Tacirua. The owner was questioned.

In a statement, the Fiji Police Force commended the brave actions of the family that warded off the suspects and provided crucial information leading to the quick arrests.

Police also thanked members of the community for sharing information with investigators.

Divisional Taskforces have been strengthened during the festive season in response to past trends of opportunistic crimes.

Police have warned that anyone intending to commit crimes will be caught and brought to justice.

Investigations into the attempted robbery are ongoing.
