A major police drug operation in Kadavu has uncovered more than 2,600 marijuana plants, but allegations of officer misconduct are now under scrutiny.

Police said officers acted on intelligence on March 18 in Lavidi, arresting a 40-year-old man who led them to the farm where the plants were found.

Fifteen youths were also detained and later released, with officers denying claims they damaged property during the operation.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has ordered statements from the officers involved, warning of zero tolerance for abuse of authority and vowing a full investigation.

The operations team has confirmed that they passed the farmhouse shown in the viral circulating video while escorting the group and seized plants.

However, they have strongly denied any involvement in the destruction of hardware and farming equipment as alleged.

In a media statement, Mr Tudravu reiterated the organisation’s zero-tolerance stance on any abuse of lawful authority.

He said that should any breaches of the law be established; criminal investigations will be initiated.

Mr Tudravu said while the claims remain allegations at this stage, they were damaging to ongoing efforts to restore public trust and confidence in the Fiji Police Force.

He stressed that such behaviour will not be condoned and assured the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
