Brothers Reunited After 24 Years
After being convicted of treason for being the 2000 coup frontman, Mr Speight was serving a life sentence until he received a presidential pardon last Thursday.

It was family first for George Speight following his release after 24 years in prison.
After being convicted of treason for being the 2000 coup frontman, Mr Speight was serving a life sentence until he received a presidential pardon last Thursday.
He has been evading media since, as he was waiting for the arrival of his older brother Sam Speight from Hamilton, New Zealand. The latter arrived on Friday.

Describing their meeting, niece Jacqueline (Jackie) Speight said, “Reunited after 24 long years, the brothers come together in freedom, celebrating the love, memories and unbreakable bond that time can’t erase.”
“It is family first. A season of gratitude,” she said.
“It came as a surprise. No one could have scripted the events that happened on Thursday. It will forever be etch in my mind and heart. Praise God indeed.”
Mr Speight’s younger siblings, Jim, Esther and Salome are all residing overseas likewise for their father Sam Speight (Sr), who is 93.
Meanwhile, his family members in Naivicula, Wainibuka, Tailevu, are as anxious to meet him.
“He went in when he was 43, he is returning home now at 67. We’re looking forward to meet him,” a relative who did not want to be named, said.
