Fijians have until 4pm on Saturday, November 14, to submit their views on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026, following Parliament's decision to extend the review period.
Parliament of Fiji
Parliament has extended the deadline for written submissions, giving individuals, organisations and community groups more time to propose changes to the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026.
Fijians have until 4pm on Saturday, November 14, to submit their views on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026, following Parliament's decision to extend the review period.
The Special Committee reviewing the Bill has issued a further call for written submissions, inviting individuals, organisations, institutions and community groups to have their say on the proposed constitutional changes.
The deadline comes after Parliament approved an extension of the committee's review period on November 3, allowing it to continue considering the Bill and submit its report by November 30.
The committee was initially required to table its report during the November sitting of Parliament.
Under the new timetable, members of the public have more time to put forward their concerns and recommendations before the committee completes its review.
What the public must submit
According to the parliamentary notice, written submissions must clearly identify the person, organisation, institution or group making the submission.
Submitters have been asked to focus their comments on the contents of the Constitution Amendment Bill, Bill No. 32 of 2026.
The committee has requested that submissions follow three headings:
- Issues with the Bill: Identify the relevant chapter or clause and explain the concern.
- Recommended amendments: State what should be amended, deleted or included.
- Reasons for the changes: Explain why the proposed amendment is necessary.
The committee said the format would help it review and assess submissions effectively.
How to make a submission
Written submissions should be addressed to:
The Chairperson
Special Committee on Constitution Bill 2026
Parliament of the Republic of Fiji
Submissions can be emailed to the committee through the following addresses:
The parliamentary notice lists the three addresses together for electronic submissions.
The public can access a copy of the Constitution Amendment Bill through Parliament's website at www.parliament.gov.fj/bills/.
All written submissions must be received by 4pm on Saturday, November 14, 2026.
Committee report due November 30
The Special Committee has until November 30 to complete its consideration of the Bill and submit its report to Parliament.
The extension gives members of the public another opportunity to formally raise concerns and recommend changes before the committee reports back to Parliament.
