Roko Tui Lau Jioji Kalounivalu and Ratu Tevita Vakacereivalu of the chiefly clan of Vuanirewa in Tubou have dismissed claims that Matuku is no longer part of the Lau Provincial Council, saying the island has remained a member of the provincial body.
Mr Kalounivalu and Ratu Tevita said reports suggesting Matuku had left the council were incorrect.
Instead, they said Matuku was marking a significant milestone by hosting and serving the Lau Provincial Council meeting for the first time in 30 years.

Ratu Tevita urged people to ensure information was interpreted correctly to avoid creating division within the province.
"The province of Lau is more united than ever," he said.
The provincial council meeting was initially scheduled to be held on Matuku but was later relocated to Suva.
The two-day meeting at the Yatu Lau Conference Centre in Suva concluded yesterday.
