Moala Island will host the 2027 Lau Provincial Council meeting after delegates unanimously endorsed the proposal during this year's council meeting in Suva.

Tui Moala, Roko Irivi Draunidalo, proposed that next year's gathering be held on Moala during the council session at the Yatu Hotel and Conference Centre on Thursday.

The proposal received unanimous support from delegates.

Tui Nayau, Sau ni Vanua o Lau and Tui Lau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, also acknowledged the people of Matuku for successfully hosting this year's meeting despite logistical challenges.

"I thank the Tui Matuku and his district for hosting the meeting after 30 years," Ratu Tevita said.

"Because of logistical challenges, including fuel costs and shipping, it was decided to move the meeting to Suva.

"We are grateful that the people of Matuku stepped up and fulfilled all the responsibilities required to ensure the meeting was a success."

Matuku last hosted the Lau Provincial Council meeting in 1996.
