Woman, 35, To Enter Plea In May

She is alleged to have raped her three-year-old daughter between September 2018 and January 2019 in Samabula.

A 35-year-old woman who is facing a rape charge in which her three-year-old daughter is the complainant will take plea in May in the High Court in Suva.

The women appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday.

She is alleged to have raped her three-year-old daughter between September 2018 and January 2019 in Samabula.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Unaisi Tamanikaiyaroi told the court that the complainant was in the care of Social Welfare Department and was undergoing counselling.

Ms Tamanikaiyaroi said counsellors indicated that the complainant had faced deep trauma.

She asked for 21 days to file the information and told the court that the Police were doing further investigations before the charges were finalised.

The accused’s bail was extended and the matter was adjourned to May 6 for plea.
