Unity Fiji leader Savenaca Narube has urged the public to be cautious when using social media, warning that false and malicious information is being circulated online.

Mr Narube made the call while dismissing a statement circulating on social media concerning the Office of the President and the Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

The statement falsely claimed that Mr Narube had commented on allegations involving the Office of the President and an alleged offer made to Ro Teimumu.

He said he had made no such comments and had not issued any statement on the matter.

“I didn’t think it would go this far, but I expected such a malicious move because the election campaign has already begun,” Mr Narube said.

“This is offensive to both the President and the Roko Tui Dreketi, and I would never get involved in this dirty game.”

Mr Narube said social media could be a powerful tool, but it was also being used to spread misinformation.

“We are not going to stand by and watch people try to ruin our reputation,” he said.

“These attempts to discredit us will not work because we are going to confront them head-on.

“Be cautious when using the internet and ensure that if you do not see a statement on our official pages, then it is not true.”
