Kabara wins Super 8 opener

Cricket Fiji’s Easter champions Kabara opened their Super 8 Championship campaign with a convincing win over Namuka I Lau at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday.

Kabara scored 138 all out in their first match, restricting Namuka I Lau to 89 all out.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Kabara team manager Jo Tukana said they are excited to start their campaign with a win.

“I thank God Almighty for giving us the strength and power to secure our first win, and the boys for showcasing good sportsmanship,” Tukana said.

“Our first game against Namuka was a little tough as we had little preparation. I thank the boys for managing to handle the pressure, outsmart our opponents and work together as a team.”

Kabara now faces a tougher challenge against former champions Lakeba and Moce.

“We are looking forward to our next two games against Lakeba and Moce. We respect both teams since they were also former champions of this competition and they are tough teams to beat. We will not take them lightly,” he said.

“Lakeba and Moce are two well-known teams in cricket and they have been in the competition for a long time, but the boys are ready for the challenge.”

Despite the victory, Tukana said Kabara had areas to improve on before their next match.

“We will go back and regroup again and try to polish up some of our mistakes against Namuka. We will learn from them and move on,” he said.

Tukana also called on Kabara supporters to turn out in numbers during the tournament.
