Super 8 Pools Drawn, Prize Money Soars

The return of Cricket Fiji's Super 8 Championship will also bring a significant increase in rewards for the winning team.

Chief executive officer Anushil Kumar announced during yesterday's official pool draw that this year's tournament will feature higher prize money, with winners and runners-up also receiving trophies and commemorative medals.

"We will be increasing the prize money by 300 per cent," Kumar said.

"The winning shield will be on a rotational basis. However, the winners will receive a trophy and commemorative medals, while the runners-up will also receive commemorative medals as a souvenir of their achievement."

Kumar, who took over as CEO in June, said he is also focused on growing the commercial side of the sport.

"I'm very excited for this Super 8 Championship. This was always intended to be our premier tournament and we want to make it an annual event," he said.

"Everyone is excited about the pool draw, something that had never been done before. Teams were equally seeded from the qualifying competition."

Several sponsors have come on board for the five-day tournament, which begins on Tuesday at Albert Park, Suva.

Cricket Fiji has also supported all competing teams with preparation funding and transportation assistance, particularly for the six island teams travelling from Lau.

Group A: Kabara, Lakeba, Moce, Namuka.

Group B: Suva, Nadi, Ono-i-Lau, Komo.
