Unbeaten Lakeba to face Kabara

Lakeba maintained its winning run in the Cricket Fiji Super 8 Championship after beating Namuka-i-Lau by 88 runs at Albert Park, Suva, yesterday.

This was Lakeba’s second win in the competition with captain Jone Taoba saying they would treat every match as the final.

“We’ve set our target and that is to win the Super 8 title,” he told SUNsports.

“Every team has really prepared well for competition and we will not take any team lightly. We respect every opponent that we will be facing.

“I thank the Lord for His protection, guidance, strength and power towards our team. This win is for Him. Without Him, we would not be able to do it.

“I thank the boys for playing well and Namuka for giving us a good game.”

Lakeba’s next challenge is against defending champions Kabara, with Taoba expecting another tough contest.

“We know they are not an easy team. We respect them, but we are looking forward to the game,” he said.

Taoba said the team would need to address their mistakes from the Namuka match so they could stay on track.

He also thanked their supporters for backing them up.

“I thank the people of Lakeba for supporting the team. This team is not ours, we’re here for them as we are representing all the villages on the island,” Taoba added.
