Veiuto extends reign as Marist stuns on debut

Veiuto defeated Lami Primary School Team 1 by six wickets in the boys' final to complete a hat-trick of titles. Indira Gandhi Memorial School claimed third place after beating Latter Day Saint Primary School by four wickets.
Veiuto Primary School cemented its status as Suva's cricket powerhouse by claiming a third consecutive boys' title, while Marist Convent School made a dream debut by capturing the girls' championship at the Suva Zone Primary Schools Cricket Competition.
Hosted by Cricket Fiji at Furnival Park in Toorak, the one-day tournament featured 18 teams from eight primary schools as the governing body continued its push to develop the sport at grassroots level.

Cricket Fiji chief executive Anushil Kumar said the tournament reflected the organisation's commitment to building the game from the ground up.
"Our focus will continue to be on grassroots cricket because we want to build a strong foundation for the future of the game in Fiji. Our Development Officers visit schools every week to introduce and grow cricket among young children. It is encouraging to see so many talented boys and girls taking part in this competition."
Kumar also encouraged more schools to introduce cricket.
"Any school that is interested in introducing cricket is welcome to get in touch with Cricket Fiji. We will be happy to send our Development Officers to conduct development sessions and help grow the game in your school. We also have more primary school competitions planned across different zones in the coming months, and we look forward to seeing even more schools take part."
The Suva Zone Primary Schools Cricket Competition forms part of Cricket Fiji's grassroots development programme, aimed at increasing participation, identifying young talent and providing more opportunities for primary school students across the country.
