Naitasiri Highlanders Netball Association is looking for opportunities so their young players can get the much-needed exposure.
Naitasiri Under-15 head coach Mereoni Raisuqe told SUNsports, that their team benefited from competing against established Suva school sides at the M-Paisa Netball Fiji Rally at the National Netball Centre in Suva last Saturday.
“It was quite competitive and challenging for us, since this is the first time for us to participate,” she said.
Naitasiri beat Tailevu 9-0 but lost 12-4 to Suva Grammar School.
“Despite the loss, I’m happy with the girls’ performance,” Raisuqe said.
She indicated that the competition provided valuable lessons for the players.
“We have learnt a lot of new things here in Suva. It’s also different from playing back at home, and we believe after this competition, the girls will grasp the knowledge and skills of playing netball. Also the importance of following the rules,” she said.
“We will be back if there’s another competition organised in Suva. This is because our girls can have the opportunity once again and learn from the top teams in Suva.”
The Naitasiri netball teams faced challenges in terms of logistics financial support but however managed to participate through fundraising drives.
Raisuqe thanked the Central Netball committee for the invitation and said the team would return if more competitions were organised in Suva.
“We will be back if there’s another competition organised here in Suva, so our girls can have the opportunity once again and learn from the top teams in Suva,” she added.
