Two key players from last year’s Vodafone Deans Trophy grand-final are among a group players who are now on a rugby scholarship in China.
They are Deans Trophy (Under-18) winning captain Lemeki Ravukivuki of Ratu Kadavulevu School and Nasinu Secondary School star first-five eighth Iowane Nabe. The other players are Alowesi Nakarawa, Soko Nawaqatabu, Eroni Seru, Josevata Veibete and Vilimoni Taqiri.
The scholarship is under the partnership between the Fiji Rugby Union and Huagan Rugby.
“The students have settled well into their new environment and commenced with their first year of studies,” stated the Fiji Rugby Union Media.
The players are currently undertaking Chinese language training in a four-year programme that sees them graduate with a Bachelor of Education.
“Alongside their academic commitments, the players are actively engaged in structured rugby training programmes and have access to quality facilities that support their development both on and off the field.”
The scholarship initiative continues to strengthen the partnership between FRU and Huagan Rugby, providing young Fijian athletes a pathway to higher education while maintaining their rugby development.
