Fiji Rice must drive self-sufficiency, says Public Enterprises Minister
Minister Charan Jeath Singh says the company must raise productivity and strengthen financial discipline

Fiji Rice Pte Limited has been urged to lift performance and reduce its reliance on Government support as part of a renewed push for long-term food security.
Minister for Public Enterprises Charan Jeath Singh, delivered the message during a visit to the Dreketi Mill in Macuata.
He met the board of directors, chief executive officer, management and staff, where he was briefed on production trends, financial results, infrastructure improvements and expansion plans.

During the briefing, the Minister was updated on the company’s production trends, financial performance, infrastructure upgrades and future expansion plans.
Mr Singh described Fiji Rice as a strategic national asset, saying its role extends beyond agribusiness.
He said the company was crucial to supporting local farmers, boosting the agricultural sector and ensuring stable food supply for the nation.
“As a public enterprise, Fiji Rice must reinforce commercial discipline, raise productivity, grow revenue and gradually reduce dependence on Government assistance,” Mr Singh said.
He reaffirmed the Government’s support but stressed that continued assistance must be matched with accountability, measurable results and strong implementation of reforms.
With strong leadership and strategic improvements, Mr Singh said Fiji Rice has the potential to build resilience, achieve financial self‑sufficiency and continue serving the national interest.
He also committed to working closely with the board and management to help the company remain financially sustainable, operationally efficient and responsive to the needs of the Fijian people.
