Environmental Commitment
The Group’s path to ISO 14001 certification involved embedding environmental management into all operations.
Initiatives ranged from energy efficiency and waste reduction in retail outlets to cleaner production processes and recycling programmes in its factories.
Group ESG Head, Deepak Sharma, said the certification reflects an ongoing commitment to greener operations.
“This certification reflects our commitment to protecting the environment while delivering value to our customers and stakeholders. It is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of continuous improvement towards greener and more responsible operations,” he said.
Group CEO, Dr. Uppiliappan Gopalan, added that the milestone reinforces responsible resource management.
“By adopting ISO 14001, we have established a framework to identify, manage, and reduce our environmental impacts. This certification demonstrates our dedication to protecting the planet for future generations and promoting eco-friendly practices throughout our operations,” Dr. Gopalan said.
Securing Data and Trust
In parallel, the Group also pursued ISO 27001, the world’s leading standard for Information Security Management Systems. The certification followed months of risk assessments, staff training, system upgrades, and independent audits to meet international best practices.
Mr Sharma said ISO 27001 represents more than compliance.
“ISO 27001 isn’t just about data security — it strengthens trust, safeguards stakeholder information, and drives responsible governance. Embedding it into our ESG journey ensures resilience, compliance, and sustainable value creation for all,” he said.
Dr. Gopalan highlighted the importance of building resilience in today’s digital era.
“This accomplishment underscores our commitment to protecting sensitive information and ensuring the security of our systems and data. It is a testament to the dedication of our team members who worked tirelessly to establish robust security controls and processes,” he said.
Future-Ready Business
The dual certifications mark a new chapter for R C Manubhai, which now positions sustainability and information security as twin pillars of its corporate strategy.
“The achievements reaffirm our role as a responsible corporate citizen and trusted partner, dedicated to safeguarding the environment, protecting customer trust, and driving sustainable growth across Fiji and the Pacific,” Dr. Gopalan said.
