Court defers Zoe Maharaj's medical bail application
Co-accused fails to appear; bench warrant issued.

A bid by Zoe Maharaj to vary her bail conditions to undergo a medical procedure has been deferred by the Suva Magistrates Court, with prosecutors given time to consider the application.
Maharaj appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa yesterday seeking permission to undergo surgery to remove a mass from her abdomen.
The court heard the application, but Magistrate Daurewa said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions required more time to consider the request.

Maharaj was remanded for a further 14 days, with the matter adjourned to August 20.
Meanwhile, the court issued a bench warrant for her co-accused, Ledua Gudru, after he failed to appear.
Gudru and Maharaj are jointly charged in relation to the discovery of an explosive device and methamphetamine at Delainavesi, Lami, on February 13.
They face charges of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, possession of break-in implements and unlawful possession of explosives.
Police allege the pair were found with 0.111 grams of methamphetamine and an explosive device during the incident.
The matter will be called again on August 20.
