Fiji is stepping up its cyber defences with the introduction of a National Cybersecurity and Resilience Strategy and the recent establishment of the Fiji Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT).
Acting Minister for Communications Filimoni Vosarogo made the announcement while opening the Fiji Tech Summit 2025 this morning, stressing that cybersecurity can no longer be an afterthought as Fiji deepens its digital transformation.
“With greater connectivity comes greater vulnerability,” Mr Vosarogo said.
“Cyber threats are a real and growing concern — not just for large corporations, but for small businesses, government institutions, and even individuals.”
He said the new cybersecurity strategy — covering 2025 to 2030 — will strengthen Fiji’s national resilience against evolving cyber threats and will soon move into its implementation phase.
Fiji CERT, he added, has already begun responding to cyber incidents and conducting awareness sessions to help organisations and individuals protect themselves online.
Vosarogo also urged citizens to practise basic cyber hygiene, noting that simple measures could prevent most cyber threats.
“By mastering these fundamentals, we can prevent the majority of cyber threats — both for ourselves and for our organisations,” he said.
