Budget support helps Fiji Airways expand as global airlines cut capacity

Fiji Airways says Government support announced in the 2026-2027 National Budget will allow the national airline to maintain maximum seat capacity and expand its international network despite mounting pressures facing the global aviation industry.

Airline managing director and chief executive officer Paul Scurrah said the Budget support came at a critical time as airlines worldwide grappled with high fuel prices, supply chain disruptions and rising operating costs.

Mr Scurrah said: "While the global aviation industry continues to navigate elevated fuel prices, supply chain pressures and rising operating costs, this support positions Fiji Airways strongly to continue growing and maintaining maximum seat capacity into Fiji at a time when many international airlines are scaling back services and reducing capacity."

He said the airline's continued growth would help sustain tourism, trade, investment and employment across the country.

"The Government of Fiji understands the critical role tourism and aviation play in the national economy, and we acknowledge their leadership and confidence in supporting the industry's continued momentum and long-term growth."

Mr Scurrah said Fiji Airways and Tourism Fiji continued to experience strong demand from key overseas markets.

"This support allows us to build on that momentum with confidence, further strengthen our network and continue driving tourism growth for Fiji now and into the future."

He said Fiji Airways remained committed to supporting tourism and operating efficiently.
