FRU explains Test match schedule
Fijiana XV will face South Africa in a World Rugby-sanctioned Test before the Deans national Under-18 quarterfinals begin.

Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) stands by its decision on the scheduling of tomorrow’s Vodafone Fijiana XV Test against South Africa.
This follows queries about why the international fixture was placed in between the Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve national quarterfinals at Suva’s National Stadium.
The governing body said the decision was intentional and aimed at showcasing the full rugby pathway, from school rugby to the international stage, rather than diminishing the significance of the Fijiana Test.

FRU chief executive officer Koli Sewabu said the organisation wanted school players and supporters to witness elite women’s rugby and inspire the next generation.
“The Fijiana XV are not only representing Fiji this weekend, but are also inspiring the next generation of young girls and boys who dream of wearing the white jersey.
“This Test match is an important international occasion for Fiji Rugby, and we encourage every supporter to arrive early, stand behind our women, and create an atmosphere worthy of a Test match,” Sewabu said.
“This weekend is about celebrating the entire rugby family. We wanted our school players to witness what
international rugby looks like, and we wanted our Fijiana players to know that an entire generation is watching and drawing inspiration from them.”
FRU board member and director women’s Cathy Wong said the Test should be viewed as a celebration of the growth of women’s rugby and an opportunity to inspire future players.
“As a board member and someone who strongly believes in creating opportunities for women and girls in sport. I see this Test match as one of the most important events on our rugby calendar.
“Our Fijiana XV have earned the right to represent Fiji on the international stage through their commitment, sacrifice and performances,” Wong said.
“The presence of thousands of young rugby players at the stadium presents a unique opportunity. Every girl watching from the stands should be able to see herself one day wearing the Fijiana jersey. That is the legacy we hope this occasion will leave.”

FRU stated while hosting South Africa required significant logistical and financial support from its commercial partners, they are encouraging supporters to watch the Test before staying on for the school’s competition.
