The body of former Fiji Pearls coach Unaisi Rokoura has been recovered from the Rewa River, bringing a tragic end to a multi-day search effort led by the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Navy.

Police confirmed that her body was found near the Waila dredging plant, days after she went missing while collecting freshwater mussels near the Navuso Agriculture School in Nausori.

Rokoura, 47, was swept away by strong currents last Saturday morning while accompanied by a 34-year-old woman and two others. The companion’s body was recovered earlier, and a post-mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted today to determine the cause of death.

Police divers and naval personnel had been conducting intensive search operations in the area since the incident.
